KARROW AVENEUE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT COMPLETED
The City of Whitefish has recently completed the Karrow Avenue Reconstruction Project as the latest roadway project funded by the City’s Resort Tax. The construction costs totaled approximately $2.4M and included the installation of curb & gutter, a shared use path connecting W. 2nd Street to W. 7th Street, and improved street lighting. Boulevard trees are planned for next spring.
“I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this project,” said Craig Workman, Whitefish Public Works Director. “Robert, Peccia, & Assoc. (engineering consultant) and Watson Excavating (general contractor) worked hard to meet the needs of the City and the Karrow Avenue property owners, which is reflected in the final delivery of the project.”
Karrow Avenue marks the 25th roadway reconstruction project to be completed with resort tax dollars since its original approval by Whitefish voters in 1995. The next road project to use resort tax dollars will be the reconstruction of E. 6th Street - scheduled for construction in 2025. “These important infrastructure projects wouldn’t be possible without the financial support of our residents and visitors who choose to shop at all of our amazing local businesses,” added Workman.
25% of all Resort Tax proceeds are used to reduce property taxes for Whitefish property owners. A portion of the City’s resort tax also funds bicycle paths and other park capital improvements. Recently completed projects include improvements in Armory Park, as well as the reconstruction of Edgewood Drive and Texas Avenue. In addition, a percentage of resort tax dollars have served to protect and preserve Haskill Basin’s pristine water quality, abundant recreational opportunities, and forest health through a Conservation Easement and Multi-Resource Management Plan. Starting in 2025 Resort Taxes will also be allocated to community housing development and programs as well as the maintenance of the Whitefish Trail.
