Understanding your property assessment notice and how it can effect your property taxes. The Department of Revenue is mailing real property classifications and appraisal notices to property owners by June 30, 2023. The notice does not serve as a tax bill, it only includes the Department's determination of market value for your property for tax years 2023 and 2024. It is important for property owners review this notice and review the information about your property characteristics at Property.MT.gov.
It is also important to understand that even if your notice indicates that your property's market value has increased over the past two years, this does not necessarily mean that your property taxes will go up the same percentage.
